TL;DR
I suggest providing a preview of what input signals are selected and what is the output in the combinator UIWhat ?
Adding a preview for :- - the selected input signal : for instance if I have filtered the input with pickaxe, I have the number of pickaxe available in the input signal
- - the live preview of the output : for instance I see if the output is currently 0 or 1

Why ?
The circuit network is difficult to understand by itself. I think it is mostly due to the UI.Having a direct view of what you have selected with the parameters and what you will get as an output will help greatly. It is a good way to learn by manipulating the parameters.
