( I just had to share it... When I started cutting trees whit grenades it was like 'well... this is absurd'. But being grenade-throwing-fireman is a next level of absurdity oO )

Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
Heh. Only issue is that it takes 3 grenades, 2 with one upgrade, and one once you get to +100% damage.
Gotta have enough grenades to keep up.
Cluster grenades do a much better job, but are expensive-ish. Well, more time consuming, actually.

Since I had to automate grenade crafting early in 0.15 for science packs, I have tons of them right now...Ranakastrasz wrote:Heh. Only issue is that it takes 3 grenades, 2 with one upgrade, and one once you get to +100% damage.

i dont understand why ppls destroy all that trees, ok ist annoing to harvest it but ist a ressource that can be used i prefer to burn it but not with a flamethrower i burn it in a Boiler

takes forever to mine, even with steel pick.
That said, once you get access to robots, I agree.
Save your coal for Liquifaction :p

Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
Firefighting using explosives is not nearly as absurd as you might think.
Certain types of oil well fires are extinguished by using explosives to literally blow the flame off the top of the well. The compression wave produced by the explosion tears the flames away from the fuel by momentarily driving the fuel-air mix above its combustion velocity. With the heat separated from the fuel and air in this way, the fire goes out and the well can be approached by people and heavy equipment to seal it off.
I've heard of dynamite being used to fight structure fires in Alaska as well during conditions where normal fire hoses freeze and burst.
And in the case of using grenades to control a forest fire, well it is effective at making a firebreak. Might not be as useful in real life though because the splintered wood all over the place would still add to the flames.
In my mind, Steam is the eternal king of the railway.
Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
Even with robots, it takes forever to get rid of trees. Plus, it covers your entire inventory with logs, which you have to haul to your base somehow.Ranakastrasz wrote:takes forever to mine, even with steel pick.

Personally I use either tank flamethrower or rocket launcher with explosive rockets. They are more effective than you may think.

It's not that long if you string out power and use a roboport and 50x (or more) con bots, I can see where, with 10x#Personal roboports, it could get annoyingly time consuming.Vykromod wrote:Even with robots, it takes forever to get rid of trees. In 0.15, base grenades (i.e., with no damage upgrades) will guarantee a 2-hit kill on trees. gg trees, ggRanakastrasz wrote:Heh. Only issue is that it takes 3 grenades, 2 with one upgrade, and one once you get to +100% damage.

robots will deconstruct a large area (much) faster if the task is broken up into smaller chunks (than if you simply draw one giant box with deconstruction planner) because it reduces flight time between targeted trees and player.

You sure? I thought they had 50 hitpoints, and grenades did 25 damage. They regenerate slightly after the first hit so you need 3.iceman_1212 wrote: In 0.15, base grenades (i.e., with no damage upgrades) will guarantee a 2-hit kill on trees. gg trees, gg

Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
Yup build a grenade factory as soon as i make my first iron belt furnace.
Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
You can run your trains on wood, but once I built solar I set up by steam enginers to backup power and they likely never turn on again. I put the wood I collect into requester chests and then on the coal belt, but it just sits thereShaymes wrote:i dont understand why ppls destroy all that trees, ok ist annoing to harvest it but ist a ressource that can be used i prefer to burn it but not with a flamethrower i burn it in a Boiler
I use grenades very liberally and get the damage upgrades early on.

i don't know the exact values but the first grenade now puts the trees deep in the red in terms of hpRanakastrasz wrote:You sure? I thought they had 50 hitpoints, and grenades did 25 damage. Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
hate to clear the trees, it just takes forever. can't stand doing it. i've only tried fire though, seems the quickest

Re: Fire, Trees, Grenades
Poison capsules are a good options if grenades are too much work for you. Or the tank flame thrower. It's so powerful that it just vaporizes trees
