Looks like there is a big enough gap to me,
Like walking between two parked cars

The last picture in the original topic shows that two adjacent boilers are (visually) connected by a pipe. However, the character is able to walk through what should be an impassible barrier.

Am I blind?

There is a point where these boilers connect.
It looks just like a pipe.

Then put a wall in front of it so you can't move through by accident. I find being able to squeeze through there handy in some situations. If it ain't broke (or chewed on by biters), it doesn't need fixing.
