[0.15.6] Pump animated although nothing is flowing

It happens when you have different fluids on each side:

This might be related to the (technically correct) behavior in following "stationary process", in which fluid is seemingly flowing, but the quantities do not change anywhere after the initial transient phase:

(I personally would optimize such closed loops away, à la belt optimizations, to save computations, but that's beside the point)

That's working as intended. The pump animates when it tires to pump - if it succeeds or not depends on the pipes/contents.

Well, with all due respect, from a realism point of view, the way it "was intended" doesn't make sense - it should animate when it succeeds (as in the 2nd example), not when it tries (as in the 1st)...

If we're going for realism does a vacuum turbine stop spinning when the hose is blocked? :P

Not sure what sort of devices you're talking about, but turbomachinery is generally designed to stop (when this is possible to do safely), in cases of blockage of the input or the output. When safe stopping is impossible, one uses pressure relieve systems [src]. If no such measures are taken, this would lead to damage, backflow, wasted power etc.

In case you're interested, here's a discussion of a scenario like that.

In any case it doesn't add to the gameplay to stop the pump when the output might be full, to keep it running shows useful information to the player, that the pump is active.
Stopping the pump with a blocked output, could lead to a confusion whether it is stopped due to a circuit condition or the output is full

Thanks - this is an argument I can live with.
What you're saying is interesting because I haven't considered the possibility of using a single pipe system to transport different fluids according to the needs of the factory (regulated via circuits). :geek:
