Sushi belt and splitter problem.

Post by Miatog »

So what I'm trying to do is set up a sushi belt for my labs and research packs. I want the belt to hold 5 times the number of labs. I know how to set the belt to read how many items are on them, and set the inserter to only activate if it's below my desired threshold. My problem comes when I use a splitter to balance the belt, because the splitter doesn't connect to the circuit network. Which ends up causing packs to go unread and more packs are placed down. As I get more and more packs, the more less free space I have to deal with this. The only solution I can think of is to just set the desired amount one lower than what I want and hope that no more than 1 of any type goes through the splitter at a time. Does anyone have a better solution?

I use sushi belts all over the place.. but normally I'm not so strict about counting items. I don't sample every segment of the belt, but usually just 10 or so belts near (or just after) the inserters, and set the rule to only add if there's less than one of a given item. It doesn't let me specify exactly how many of a given item I have, but more 'allow a few, but not too many' of a given item. Over time they naturally get scattered somewhat evenly. Over time, I might have to increase the sampling area if I start adding a lot of different items to the belt, or have several sampling areas for a large belt, to avoid having a little of everything clog the entire thing. It's not perfect, but it's easy.

I think for what you're doing, having one extra item get added while one is not counted when sliding through the splitter isn't really a huge problem.
