Desyncs When Placing Rails

My friend and I are playing a new multiplayer game and we've started building rails, and for some reason I keep desyncing when we're doing something related to the rails. It seems to happen when I use the pipette tool on the rail, or when he picks up a rail from his hotbar. It happens so often that it's becoming impossible to play the game.
