[0.14.21] Desync redownload too big!
[0.14.21] Desync redownload too big!
When we desync and game tries to reconnect again it downloads fucking 999 999 999MB file!!!!!! When I kill factorio launch again, then it downloads 12MB save file as it is supposed to.
Re: [0.14.21] Desync redownload too big!
That's by design. The desync report contains the reference level and desynced level saved with human-readable tags. The save file is between 10 and 20 times larger than the standard save and allows us to tell what was different that caused the desync so it can be fixed.

I hope this is only thing of alpha version, when you hit beta i hope this thing will be toggleable. Or should i send every 1400MB report here?
Can you please give us option to disable all that desync bullshit reports and let us just play, desyncs are not common and we do not care about once an hour desync. My logic behind disabling ALL desync stuff:
Desyncs in modded game will be ignored most of the time, until it is clearly proven that the desync is not caused by scripting.
We might do some changes of mod scripting for 0.15 that should reduce these problems overall.
So why should i even bother? We play modded factorio. That alone should disable all reports when playing.

Re: [0.14.21] Desync redownload too big!
Maybe someone who played on Revvix's server from twitch last week will have more and better information. One player had a desync issue, which snowballed into the server becoming unplayable.
It went something like this, as best I can remember:
Player #50 desync
Player #51 connects
Server saves map for player #51
Server briefly resumed, then paused a few seconds later
Player #52 connects
Player #50 desync
Server saves map for player #52
Player #51 catching up
server "not responding"
Player #52 catching up
Player #49 desync
server "not responding"
Player #51 catching up
Player #52 catching up
server resumes for a few seconds, then pauses
server "not responding"
Player #50 desync
Player #49 desync
server "not responding"
Player #51 catching up
Player #52 catching up
server "not responding"
Player #50 desync
Player #49 desync
It just seemed to get stuck in a snowball of the desync and server not responding, happening over and over again, causing problems for everyone. I thought the desync players were just on a slow connection, but if the download gets bigger, then it makes much more sense now. With each succeeding desync, the download must've been growing exponentially and causing the server to lock up, all from one player's desync causing another to desync and the new players being unable to connect and catch up properly. Eventually, player #50 was dropped after a "desync limit" or something, but player #49 began causing the same issue and I disconnected after about 20 minutes of sitting and waiting, after most players had already left.

Re: [0.14.21] Desync redownload too big!
One player desycing does not cause another player to desync. Also the file size doesn't "grow exponentially each time a desync happens". It's a fixed size increase for a desync report no matter how many times it happens. It sounds like you have broken mods if players are desyncing that frequently and repeatedly.Jon8RFC wrote:It just seemed to get stuck in a snowball of the desync and server not responding, happening over and over again, causing problems for everyone. You also need to keep in mind at this stage Factorio is still an Alpha.
