To rotate anything that requires rotating, like blueprints and inserters, counterclockwise.
In a situation where an assembler is requesting items from an inserter that's drawing various items from a chest, and the recipe from the assembler is changed, the inserter will sometimes be trapped with an item in its hand. It would sometimes be handy to have the option to rotate the inserter the opposite way.

There is a mod, that does exactly do that...
BTW: I use that a while now and I need to say: I use it less often than I thought. What many forget: Shift-R is two keypresses. Rotating counterclockwise is three. But on the same key.
