I have Intel HD Graphics 3000, and Radeon HD 6470M (with switchable graphics).
The issue appears with both graphics card.

This is intentional, the background is there for better contrast.

This is something you can set in the settings. Black background is the default. Light one is used when option -> graphics -> Light entity info background is on.
