[Linux] Delay when playing online with Windows player

Me and a friend have been playing for about 30ish hours on our map now, and i'm absolutely loving it so far.

However, i tried joining his server from my Ubuntu partition instead of Windows and noticed that there's a great bit of delay now. It's most noticeable when driving vehicles and picking up stuff from the ground/belts. We also tried having me hosting the server, but that made his game lag instead. When i switched back to Windows the lag disappeared.

Does anyone know what might be the reason for this? Is it a known problem that crossplay between Windows and Linux causes delay? I would really love it if i was able to play this game on Linux instead of Windows.
