ok i feel incredibly dumb right now but when i connect to esper.irc.net i get a bitlbee frontend. i cant join #Factorio (or ##Factorio) as it just wants to set up connections to other IM

I've never encountered that... you could try http://webchat.esper.net/?channels=#Factorio and see what happens.
edit: actually did you use esper.irc.net or irc.esper.net?

found it, the blogpost said esper.irc.net ^^ i didnt get connected to espernet so i tried it on my normal espernet connection and bam im in
the blog post miiiight be contain a IMPORTANT typo ^^
