Please add a 'close' button in the research map.

Plain and simple, the 'X' is NOT for closing the research map.....it shuts down the complete game without asking 'are you sure'. OK that questions sucks, but when a button is added in the research map to close it, then that would help and I don't close the whole game

I play on a windows machine and use a mouse/mousepad. The 'E' key would not help with my stupidity

I personally don't see the issue. We don't use "x" on any GUI in the game. *everything* is closed with "E" or "Esc" - the keys setup around WASD you can easily reach with your left hand while your right hand is on the mouse.

Use "E" - that's what the entire game and GUI is built around.

Well, in my opinion the issue is, that the close-button for the Factorio APP can be misinterpreted when in windowed mode and the user eventually closes the game by accident.

I personally think, that every window in a game should have a basic set of mouse-actions, cause sometimes you want to turn back, sit on the sofa with the big screen and just use the mouse, even if that's much slower. This is also useful, if you want to present a game (or make a video, etc.).

Maybe you can make the output window in windowed mode without "decorations"... (this could just be done from the application itself)

Normally fullscreen mode is much better - higher graphic performance mainly. The only reason to use the windowed mode are issues like program crashes just occuring in fullscreen mode or you can't change between applications with Alt+Tab / Cmd+Tab...
