Connecting wires to tracks-some possible options

Post by vipm23 »

Expanding on some ideas about connecting rails from viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28483 and viewtopic.php?f=6&t=29978
Tracks connected together by wire, instead of acting like separate circuit entities, could act like one big circuit entity covering everything above it. This is so that multiple tracks connected together won't read the same wagon twice, letting you read multiple wagons easily.
If you right clicked on a connected rail, there could be options like:

[ ]Read Wagon Inventory
If ticked, the rail would output the inventory of any rolling stock above it.
If Locomotives can be marked by circuit signals, the rail would output that, and not it's inventory.
If there is no rolling stock on top, it will not output anything. If there are multiple rolling stocks on top, it will read

[ ]Read Wagon Type
If ticked, the rail would output what kind of wagon is on top of it. This would not respond to signal marking unless Read Wagon Inventory is ticked.

[ ]Detach/Attach
If ticked, when a circuit condition is met and when at least two attached rolling stocks are above the connected rail, the rolling stocks will be detached from each other
If they are not attached, they will be attached to each other instead.

This should be used at a stop, or when moving slowly...unless you like the idea of a cargo wagon plowing uncontrollably through the rail network.

[ ]Set Max Speed
If ticked, this will set the max speed of a locomotive above it to some specified circuit signal.
If the locomotives in a train have differing max speeds, the locomotive with the slowest max speed would set the pace.
If the max speed set to the locomotive is higher than the maximum possible speed of that locomotive, the max speed will instead be set to the maximum possible speed.

This would be useful with roboport cargo wagons-The train could be set to a low max speed at the work site, and would never outrun the 'bots.
It would also be useful in stations where detaching and reattaching wagons is going to happen frequently, so as to minimize accidents.

[ ]Read Max Speed
If ticked, this would output the max speed of a locomotive above it as a circuit signal.

[ ]Read Speed
If ticked, this would output the current speed of any rolling stock above it as a circuit signal.
