Modular/smart furnace line

Hi

I created a furnace setup that take:
2 iron ore belts
2 copper ore belts
1 stone belt
1 iron plate belt
It will smelt them by the factory demand for iron, copper, brick and steel, It can output up to 2 full belts of the demanded materials

the furnaces should never get stack as the input is counted and will not stop until the iron plates are in multiples of 5 and the stone is in multiples of 2

Example of the logic
Red line reading the inserter ticks, combinator to convert item inserted to unique signal for every furnace
Controller setup include counter with stack compensator + red to green bridge + steel threshold that send all the furnaces signals from Constant Combinator to the activation line (Green line)
the final setup also have a way to separate the signals of the stone furnaces inserters and the iron plate ones

I can't really see how the belts are used.. Is the input belt always filled with one ore type per line or can it switch material depending on demand?

The stone and the iron plate input are dedicated belts
The iron ore and copper ore input have 2 belts in total that being switched between iron ore or copper ore or iron ore and copper ore

I just reanalyzed I can replace all the iron ore and copper ore input filter section with 2 splitters

However, you will need to add belt backup protection.

I am planning to build a smart furnace with belts, too. But I want only one input belt that can switch material or contains a mix of ores. I would use the universally throughput unlimited buffer that always outputs fullly compressed blue belts I created here to store input materials and use splitters to inject them to the input belt of the furnaces as they demand material

I'd like an overall capacity of 64 full blue belts, so one furnace line should take as less belts as possible to save space and material. This amounts to 153600 items per minute and I expect a furnace setup to steadily handle this rate (for iron/copper/stone, steel takes more time smelting of course) without loss of throughput under all circumstances.

The output balancing is not so good, One lane is filling on the output belts or stuff getting to the end of the inner unsorted belts depending on the sorters inserters config
If you can help that will be great :D

I have removed your output filter section and added a splitter-based filter bank based on XKnights filter design. It only works with blue belts, so I needed to put the two red belts onto two blue belts. After the filter bank I have added four buffers that can each handle two blue belts.

You don't need my fancy buffer after the filter bank, but it works better in many situations than just plain chests with inserters. I've posted an explanation here: viewtopic.php?f=193&t=33056#p212468

This 3 devices actually work very well together
The smart furnace need a buffer to know what to produce and to smooth the output switching
The splutter don't need the overflow protection as it have the buffer after it and the furnace before it that will automatically setup production if the buffer is full

So I managed to significantly compact the splinter you posted and put it inline in the same space as the original splinter

But as this splitter don't do buffering, if you try to add buffers it will not fit and is kind of redundant

I think a better solution is to do what you have posted and split it to 3 parts:
1. Furnace lines area
2. Splatters
3. Centennial buffers
It can also save belts as you move the 2 mixed belts (per line) to the splitting area right before the main bus and not the 6 separated lines
And you can have a centennial buffer and not a dedicated one for every line...

Your buffers + The special timing splitters setup is nice but I think it will take a lot of space...
