Current Factorio tech tree

Post by grim962 »

It's been several months since I've played Factorio. I decided to try it out again and one of the things I noticed was the tech tree/research menu change.

I'm not a fan of the layout. I find it very hard to get straight to the information I want when I look at the tech tree, which is what research I need to do in order to unlock specific items. The whole research menu takes up the entire screen and the primary focus seems to be on the visual representation, or the actual "tree," which is very distracting when I'm only interested in the item I need to research to unlock, say, belt splitters.

I realize there is a search function which can be used to search for specific item unlocks, which can then be used to determine which research tiles need to be researched to unlock something, but the problem with this is that it requires a lot of clicking through the tiles on the tree to determine the path to take get to something, and when I click on a tile, the visual tree changes, which leads to more confusion and information overload.

In summary, my main problems with the new menu are that it takes up too much screen space, and I get an information overload when I'm looking at the visual tree.

Is there an option somewhere in the settings to have a more compact list which uses less screen real estate? Or perhaps a mod I can install which will do the same thing? I'm one of the weird few people who actually preferred the older research menu layout.

Thanks for reading

on the tech tree sidebar, click teh search icon, type what you're looking for, click the reuslt, and it will show complete research path how to get there
Better forum search for modders: Enclose your search term in quotes, eg. "font_color" or "custom-input" - it prevents the forum search from splitting on hypens and underscores, resulting in much more accurate results.
