Burner Inserter to stone furnace?

Hey. I'm in the campaign, I put down a Burner Mining drill going to Transport Belt, which goes to the burner inserter. The burner inserter can pick it up, but it won't place it in the stone furnace?
I have placed it just like it is another place (it was there when I spawned), and it still doesn't work?
And how do I pick up things from the ground? ty

just realised that stone can't be smelted.. my bad..

but how can I pick up things laying on the ground?

Stone can be smelted to stone bricks.
By default you pick up things using 'F', but this can be changed in settings.

There are two possibilities why the burner inserter didn't inser the stone into furnace -- Was there enough fuel in the inserter? Was there space in the input slot of the furnace? (inserters never fill the whole stack, just twice the needed amount, also if the input slot already has some different material, inserter won't insert anything else.)
