Self-Intersecting train?

Post by Epicnoob »

I was wondering whether or not it is possible for an automatic train to crash into itself. To answer this question I created the following setup:
The setup
I created a little (signaled) loop, made a train 12 long (10 was 1 wagon too short to fill the loop so I went for 12 to be sure), loaded it up with some excess coal and sent it at a station on the other side of the loop. Now the question was, will it deadlock or crash?
The result

Dissapointment. The train just barely stopped right before the intersection after it came on barreling in at high speed. It only seemed to start braking when it was on the intersection so I figured it's time to scale it up.
Round 2
So I took a longer runway, a longer train and some more coal and sent it in for round 2.
The final result
