[Pending] Unable to create sprite (3836X2111) probably not enough of v

So, I've been known to get sleepy and go to bed leaving the game running. Since updating to 13.x experimentals if I leave the game overnight I come back to an error dialog that says: "Unable to create sprite (3836X2111) probably not enough of video memory." No hardware changes. Video drivers might be updated.

I see version 0.13.8 is out now. I was thinking of playing and letting the game sit tonight when I'm finished.

~15 hours uptime, I presume you maximized the window after it started? Were you in-game or at the title screen?

What happens to your PC when you let it sit for few hours? I assume it at least turns off monitor when you let it is over night, is that correct?

Screen goes to sleep, goes to lock screen.

I log back in with pin and back to playing. This might happen a dozen times if I sit down to play during the day, sometimes I'll watch a show for 30 minutes, go mow the lawn, whatever... come back and pick back up.

Yeah, start game, maximize window is usually my typical deal... usually leave sitting in game.

This issue is with the computer going to sleep, I was able to reproduce this just by closing my laptop lid (new laptop - that sends it to sleep).

It looks like this has come up before:

It's annoying, though one of the devs has mentioned that it's due to their use of DX9. If that's the case, there's not much they can do, without setting development back by several weeks, minimum, since they'd have to switch to a higher version of DX, like DX 11, and changing library versions causes lots of problems.

It'd be nice if it was fixed, but for now, I'm just disabling sleep mode on my PC, and I suggest others do the same.

If you need to put your computer to sleep while the game is running, you can try to use OpenGL instead of DirectX.
That can be done by setting launch option in Factorio properties in Steam to

or by changing force-opengl in config.ini.

Ah, sounds good! I just came to post because I noticed that it hasn't happened in a while and thought it could be fixed.
