To edit one of the quick access slots, you'd right click it, which would put a highlight around it, then click the signal (or set the constant) you want to put there.
I pretty much always set the number to 0, 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, or 1000. It's frustrating when I want to select 50 but actually get 40, then overshoot and get to 60. Now most of the time I just copy-paste or use blueprints so I won't have to deal with that slider.
This should have a useful preconfiguration for about halve of the slots (should not be completely empty at start), which can be changed by the player (in game and in game-configuration). A save-button can save this and it changes it then for all games. Hm. More things are possible with this.
This is also useful for selecting any filter-selection!
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers. Have you used the Advanced Search today? Need help, question? FAQ -Wiki -Forum help I still like small signatures...
I would use this to set some constants such as -2^31 that are at least difficult to remember and always awkward to type out. I also have my favourite virtual signals (like Red and Yellow) that I routinely use for circuit designs.
The belt sorter mod by judos has some of this functionality.
(A custom filter and it remembers the most recent values.)
In case anyone is motivated to write this as a mod. https://mods.factorio.com/mods/judos/beltSorter
