Hello factory worker!
I want some help with settings for a couple scenarios i will list below. Hopefully this reddit expertise will help me =D
I´ve finished the campaign a while ago in hardcore difficulty (beside the last stage, where I changed to hard) and did a normal run with everything default, also a while ago in 0.12.
1) I want a normal difficulty run with RSO = Good enough starting resources so I can setup all the basic tech and infrastructure. Trains will be needed to get me new resources (2 or 3 expansions for each basic resource) that will let me finalize rocket and all the late game tech.
2) A harder then before setup that will need me to be a little bit more smarter about my resources, but not super challenging or that make expanding super tedious with constant building.
3) I want a couple of suggestions about 3.1)enemy configuration, 3.2)water and 3.3)terrain segmentation. What do you do and what happens when you use that configuration?
4) Any other interesting mod that don´t change much the vanila experience but make it better? Im using RSO, Better Fluid Colors, Sane Concrete, Shuttle Train, Big Brother (to improve radar since RSO maps a much bigger).
Thanks!

Terrain segmentation determines how often the terrain changes from one type to another (from grass, to sand to water, etc.). Lower than normal segmentation will create large areas for each type, higher than normal segmentation will make each section of terrain smaller and smaller. The water setting determines how often water shows up compared to other terrain types like grass or sand. These two settings work together so if you have high segmentation and high water then you will have a ton of tiny lakes all over the place along with lots of changes from grass to dirt to sand. My personal favorite setting is low terrain segmentation and big water - this creates large bodies of water while still having plenty of large open land areas, the water helps create some natural boundaries that aliens can't cross making for easier defenses.
As for mods, I recently started using Angel's infinite ores to go with RSO and I really like it. It adds a small patch of infinite ore in the center of the ore field created by RSO surrounded by ordinary finite ore tiles. It reads like oil by having a yield %. This combo of mods allows me to have to expand using lots of train tracks to build outposts, but I never need to tear those outposts down because they have an infinite supply of ore. You still have to expand and add more distant outposts if you want to increase throughput which I find to be a suitable challenge to keep it interesting.
Enemy settings are pretty straightforward, it's mostly a matter of how much you want to deal with defending yourself and your base as you play. Once you have polluted up the map enough you will end up with tons of enemies no matter what the settings were at the start

For resource settings, I go with setting the size to small and leaving frequency and richness as normal. With some map regens to make sure that the initial patches aren't too small, this generally puts me at the point of starting to look at doing outposts shortly after getting blue science, though starting to feel the pinch on throughput shortly before that.
I can never seem to get a good setting for biters though. Normal frequency seems too sparse, yet bumping it up to high immediately brings it to having to push through nests to keep train lines moving forward. I'd probably recommend high, though that may be a matter of my current map being normal as I tend to switch between the two.
Regarding mods, FARL and The Fat Controller are going to be highly useful if moving to a train focused game. FARL can save a bunch of boring grunt work when setting up your lines and Fat Controller will let you monitor them to make sure everything is running smoothly.
