Steel Plates - new player

I cannot figure out how to make steel plates. I am on Tight Spot level 3.

Wiki says steel plates are made from iron plates BUT i need to research steel processing at a Lab. However, I cannot figure out how to build a lab, I do not have one in my inventory and I don't see one in the market.

Tight Spot begins with all techs unlocked. Just insert iron plates and coal into a furnace.

I appreciate your help. However, I still can't seem to make steel plates

I'm brand new but seems like on the assembly machines I should be able to choose the recipe for steel plates?? But it is red and un-selectable.

My stone furnaces will only spit out iron plate and copper plates? I am using assembly machines to make copper coil and electronic circuits.

The goal of "Tight Spot" is to make 600 Solar Panels, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make steel plates. Couple hrs trying but haven't been able to. I'm probably missing something simple but wow, i'm confused

Get those iron plates into another furnace...you know...the same kind they came out of...

In the crafting screen most recipes show the kind of building it requires, for example steel plates can be produced in either a stone, steel or electric furnace.

^ This. If your ever unsure about what building something is made in just hover over the item in your crafting menu and it should show you.
For steel you need to smelt the Iron Plate to get it. It takes 5 Iron Plate to make one Steel, which you can also see by hovering over the Steel recipe in your crafting menu.

Steel takes the same time to process as the 5 iron ore needed to make the plates. So you can just put two furnaces in a row and feed one with the other.
