Multi-player no longer working

Hi I have been playing Factorio for a little while now and over the weekend the game patched itself to update to 0.12.33. Since then i have been unable to play any of the maps in multi-player with my friend. we both have the same version of the game, and have checked all of the internet and port settings. we have even been able to create new games together but when we try to play one of our saved games from before the patch it wont let the other person join the online session.

does anyone know why this is happening or if there is a way to fix this? We had worked really hard on the level and don't want to start another new game.

What error message does the other person get? A log file would also help.

when I first logged into the saved game it displayed a message saying something along the lines of replay "not being stored because the map was saved in 0.12.29". When trying to connect to the other persons game it gives the standard "couldn't establish network connection with the server" which is only happening with the saved games from before the patch. when we made new levels we are able to join the other persons game without any problems.

as for log files would it be the factorio-current.log file your after?
