In some YouTube videos I see some drop down items surrounded by a black blob.
What's that?

@@found - that are provider chests

And - is it possible to drop a item direct to a belt instead of placing it to the ground?

Have the item in hand, press Z (or whatever you set it in controls).

If you are hovering over a belt, it gets dropped there.
