Hi,
i hope with my question i dont scare away everyone, but i hope somebody will have sympathy with me and give me advice.
i want to run the linux version for me, not needing to use windows.
ok, some of you may think, just do it. but thats not for me. i am really bad at getting things done, when it comes to software and such things, i dont have any talent in this. so i would like to have a step-to-step advisor, who would kindly explain those things to me. i am eager to learn and open for new things. so if anybody wants to help me, i would be so much thankful, you cant believe.
and by that i really mean, from the first step till the last one.
So if you want to help me, i would appreciate it very much. i think that would be great for some future users as well.
If anybody is interested: System is Xubuntu 12.04 LTS, that means Ubuntu-distribution (Debian-based) with Xfce 4.10 as the desktop.
Thank you so much.
Regards,
Wredi

Re: getting the linux version started
- Download the game from factorio.com
- Browse to where you downloaded the game file to
- Extract (either Thunar should do it for you, or you may need to do it from the command line, in which case it's `tar x factorio_alpha*`)
- You should now have a folder named 'factorio'. Go in to this folder.
- Go to the folder 'bin\'
- Go to folder 'x64' (or 'x86', if you're on a 32-bit system and downloaded the 32-bit version)
- Double click on 'factorio'
- Game should now be running.
Re: getting the linux version started
Hi,
thank you so much.
i thought it was way more difficult, to build a package and install that or something similar. i read a bit about it and got to some strange things which i didnt nearly understand. how could i imagine it would be that easy .
thank you so much.

There used to be .deb packages in the past, but now it's just a "portable version"
There is still a slim chance you might need to install required libraries IMO.
($ ldd <factorio_executable> will be your friend in that case)
So.. you didn't run into https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=2229 ?
Can you confirm that?
