[SOLVED] Loading Sprites takes forever (+15min)

Post by rafaelbn »

Hello all!

I just bought the game on Steam and ran it on my brand new Dell Laptop. My config is this:

Intel Core i7
8GB RAM
AMD R7 M260 (2GB)
SSD Sansung EVO 850
Windows 10 Pro 64Bits

The problem is that when I fire up factorio it takes almost 15min to load just to the main menu. That "loading sprites" takes forever!!! And when I'm actually playing the game is smooth!

I updated windows and my graphics drivers but that didn't do the trick.

Any ideas what the issue is?

Thanks!
Rafael

EDIT1: I tryed forcing my laptop to use the integrated Intel HD graphics. And to my surprise now the game loads in like 15secs! Curse you AMD!!!

Hi,

I remember seeing similar issue, and found it here : viewtopic.php?f=49&t=21197&hilit=Loading+Sprites
Maybe just updating your drivers - if they are not up-to-date - could solve your problem ?

Well... After digging a lot more, looks like it's a AMD/Win10 issue. AMD released a hotfix for this problem. The problem is that when you get to the download pages on AMD's site you're presented with two choices. One is the regular driver and the other is the driver with the hotfix (go figure...).

After installing the hotfix one the game loads fast again.
