Hi,
if I put a mining drill on the stone patch, with inserter and wooden box, it will produce coal instead of stone. If I pick the patch manually, it will produce stone. [0.12.24]

Can you post a screenshot of the ore the miner is sitting on?
If it's sitting on stone + coal ore it will cycle between all the available ore in its work area.

I believe the inserter is grabbing the coal from the burner mining drill and that's what you're seeing as "getting coal from stone/iron" 
The mining drill will push out the results directly onto a belt or chest in front of it - no need for the inserters there. That will "fix" the issue you're having.

It did the trick. So, actually the only way something can exit from an object with an exit arrow is... the exit arrow? IMHO, it is a bit weird that a crane pointed to a drill will remove its fuel.

it's really only the case for drills and it's very useful I would say. It greatly simplify building mining outpost.
And since it's mining ore it make sense that this stuff would just be dumped on a belt I think.
