How do I lock chest slots

Ok so I used to play Factorio a bunch Ive since come back from an extended break and have a smart chest with one row accessible to store item in the rest of the slots are locked they are actually red. How can that be done it has nothing to do with smart inserters so please spare me the speech on that. I cant figure out how I limited a chest in this method nor can I find any info on this in threads everything goes back to logistics or smart inserters which this is not the case as you can see here.

Click on the red X at the end of the inventory, then click on the first slot you want blocked. To clear simply click the red X again.
