(This is proposed as an alternative to game replayer with more control, which I also consider a good idea)
when trying to watch a replay, it becomes quite irritating to realize you can't even get to a certain point, and it's virtually impossible to share a replay on YouTube currently, at least without external software. Why can't I just have an MP4 of my replay? If the replay can be rendered by the game, it should be simple enough to write a tool to record what would otherwise be rendered on the screen instead of displaying it right away.
Edit: also, it's not like any other program can do this conversion. replay.dat is stored in the form of deterministic instructions, i.e. "player spawns at (X, Y). Player moves down N pixels... etc.", and any tool to do this job would have to emulate factorio exactly anyway.
