(Controller & GUI) Adjustable controller navigation repeat delay and speed

Post by KillTheAlarm »

TL;DR
Add configurable repeat delay and repeat rate settings for controller UI and menu grid navigation.
What?
When navigating menus, inventory grids, and crafting lists using a controller (D-pad or joystick snap navigation), the speed at which the selection jumps from element to element is fixed and feels slow.

I suggest adding two sliders under the Controller options menu:
  • Repeat delay: How long you hold a direction before fast-scrolling starts.
  • Repeat rate: How fast the cursor/selection moves across UI items while holding a direction.
This functions like standard keyboard repeat settings in OS control panels (e.g., keyboard key repeat delay and rate), but applied to controller UI navigation.

Why?
  • Fills a gap: The game already offers sliders for cursor stick sensitivity and movement stick sensitivity. Why not have sliders to customize how fast UI elements scroll too?
  • Fixes sluggish UI: Moving across large inventories, recipe trees, or logistics request lists with a controller currently feels slow.
  • Fits Factorio's philosophy: The Controls screen already gives a lot of options for customization. Adding just two sliders in the menu adds relatively little gameplay complexity while providing a substantial game value for controller users.
  • Passes complexity VS game-value check: Adding just two sliders in the menu adds relatively little gameplay complexity while providing a substantial game value for controller users.
