Can Steam Turbines be put into a different technology than Nuclear Power?

I know this is a niche scenario, but if I want to scale up my boilers but want to conserve space/have it prepped for when I set up nuclear power, I normally want to switch to turbines. However with the addition of trigger techs I now need to mine uranium first, which means bringing sulfuric acid to the uranium, just to get the trigger tech and then not do anything with the uranium for a bit. It just feels kind of annoying and unnecessary.

If I'm not ready to go all out on nuclear, I usually bring a stack of acid barrels and a assembler to open up the research.
