[2.1.17] Foundry "Set recipe" rotate the fluid inputs

Post by OzoneGrif »

Issue Description
=============
I'm using a circuit to set the recipe on a Foundry between "Raw copper smelting" to "Copper plates". When changing the recipe, the fluid inputs rotate 180°.

Steps to Reproduce
===============
- Put a foundry down
- Connect it to a constant
- Set the two recipes on the constant in different groups: "Raw copper smelting" and "Copper plates"
- Switch from one recipe and the other
- See the Fluid inputs rotate 180°

Expected Behavior
==============
The Fluid inputs should remain in the same position, always.

Thanks for the report however this is Not a bug (also a duplicate of 122441, 124580 and 128317). Foundry does not rotate when changing recipe, it is just that one recipe uses input pipes and other recipe uses output pipes.

There are recipes that use input and output pipes at the same time so we have to keep strict separation between inputs side and outputs side and not do anything fancy to rotate foundry when recipe changes because this could cause foundry to randomly rotate based on recipe changes sequence (if copper ore melting recipe changing into casting copper made foundry rotate 180 deg [to try to keep pipes on the same side], while copper ore melting to molten copper from lava would not rotate [since both have output pipe, keep sides] and molten copper from lava to copper casting would not rotate [since both have input pipe], you can see first would cause foundry to rotate while the other one would not). Foundry is simply never rotating on its own and we keep input and output sides separate so what you see is intended behavior. Similarily chemical plant does not rotate when it takes petroleum crafting solid fuel vs outputs on the other side when melting ice.

Thanks for the explanation. I see what you mean.

I wanted to pump the liquid copper out into the tank, then switch recipe and take the liquid back from the same tank (same input and output side); but from what you explain, I'll have to link both side with a pipe to loop the input and output.

I tend to use pumps with filters to separate the fluids with auto-recipes.

Have a good day!
