What did you do?
Placed an inserter horizontal next to the spaceship, such that it would not interact.
What happened?
The inserter took an item from the spaceship and inserted back into the spaceship in a loop. If you open the spaceship inventory you can see the item count drop when the inserter picks up and increase when it puts it back.
What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
Inserters should not work when oriented "parallel" to a chest.
Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
Always *when inserter is above the ship, see follow up below.

Re: [2.1.8] Sideways inserter next to spaceship creates a loop
I went back to 2.0.77 just to see and it appears this happens in that version as well. It also only happens along the top side of the ship, except for the left and right edges at the corners.
Re: [2.1.8] Sideways inserter next to spaceship creates a loop
Interesting, I was expecting this to be some weird multipart collision box thing; actually, the spaceship extends slightly into that tile, but the inserter's collision box is so small that it can still fit.
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

Thanks for the report. I think this is fine to keep, it existed for a long time.
