Would it be possible to get either some form of checkbox at the top of the inventory or setting where we can view compact forms of inventories?
Currently, in stack view of inventories, if there is a huge amount of a specific item in the inventory (which tends to happen), it ends up just clogging up the UI view and makes it difficult to both see how much of a specific resource is in the inventory, as well as makes it difficult to simply find stuff within that inventory.
I believe that this would be a good change for all forms of inventory, such as with the player, and space hubs.
For an example on inventory UI being clogged up, on many space platforms you'll end up with hundreds of stacks of the same resource, in my case, stone. In one such space platform of mine, I have 40k stone being shipped up to it (800 stacks). This then effectively renders the whole space platform inventory view fairly useless for trying to debug issues and trying to figure out exactly how much of a specific resource it has. While you do have the right panel that shows that simplified view, you still need to be hovered over the physical building to view it, which can make setting up logistics and wait conditions a bit of a pain.
Another issue that was brought to my attention was the player inventory. This is another big pain, since you don't even have the simplified view that pops up on the right hand side of the screen. In any given players late game inventory, they might have several tens of rows of belts, inserters, power poles, modules, raw resources etc etc. And since you play a lot within your personal inventory in the game, having it be a hassle to try to figure out where that one thing that you just crafted was.
(while I only just started getting into the late game personal inventory, it still gets the point across that quite a bit of the inventory gets clogged up with displaying similar stacks of resources)
What I propose is a togglable simplified view of inventories. This doesn't change anything physically, it just a setting that allows you to view a simplified view of an inventory, much like the right hand screen that pops up already shows. Here, it will compact all similar stacks and display their true value in how much you have in the inventory. So instead of displaying 500 separate stacks of stone, you'd instead display 1 with the number "40,000" below it.
And in terms of how many remaining empty slots, you could probably just display it how it already does, uncompacted, it will just grow and contract based on resources coming into and leaving the inventory.
To fix the issue with being able to quick trash/transfer a whole stack of items with shift click, you can still have that functionality, where if you shift click the compacted stack, it just trashes/transfers 1 whole stack of that resource. Same sort of thing with control click. Right click could probably work similar, where it just takes half of a stack of that resource (or in compact view it might be a cool thing to take exactly half of what you have of that resource, rather than half a stack).
Its just a QoL feature that I think could make handling inventories in the late game much easier and less of a pain in the late game.
