Up until now, I have 1 large cargo ship for each planet (One for Fulgora, one for Gleba, etc). That ship goes to its home planet and stocks up on inventory which is native to that planet, and then it goes on a route to each other planet to deliver it's goods. I have set up an interrupt to go back to it's main planet to stock up if it runs out of anything, and it just keeps doing it's rounds.

Lately I have been thinking it might be more efficient to do it another way. Rather than have a Nauvis ship delivering Nauvis goods to all the other planets, it might be better to have a Nauvis ship which just goes to the planets it needs inventory from, picks it up, and brings it back. I could have one ship collecting for Nauvis, one for Fulgora, etc. I am trying to figure out if the logistics are possible to only send out the ship to the other planets, only when the inventory for that planet is starting to run low. I can't figure out how to do those logistics, or if it's even possible. I don't want to send my Nauvis ship to Aquilo if it doesn't need anything from Aquilo.

Does this make sense? Is there a way to set up logistics like that?

I prefer point-to-point schedules for most hauling; it eliminates unncessary space travel since that consumes a good bit of CPU / UPS-budget with dozens of active Platforms. Interrupt-based schedules are neat; but painful to configure and i do not think they worth the time in most cases. Here is what works for me:
  • Space Mall - Runs on a loop schedule visiting Nauvis, Vulcanus, Gleba, Aquilo, Fulgora in turn. Carries "planet-unique" but low-throughput items such as Uranium/Fusion Cells; Tungsten Belts; Production buildings. This is my busiest & largest ship.
  • Gleba Express - Visits only Gleba and 1 other Planet carrying Spoilables (Bioflux mostly), and whatever planet-unique material is actually needed. I add as many as needed for throughput / freshness.
  • Science Haulers - Carries Science Packs back to Nauvis from each Planet individually. Again, add more for Throughput
  • Edge Runner - Specialized hauler for Biter Eggs / Promethium Chunks.
  • Shuttle - No permanent Schedule: only cargo is the Character. You can't get killed by Biters if you live in space ;)
Fusion Cells are picked-up from Gleba or Nauvis (not the default!) in most cases, so Interrupts to visit Aquilo occasionally are not needed. This also lets me eliminate Rocket Turrets (and the associated ammo production) from most ships, which is a nice space/weight savings.
