[2.0.72] Crash of headless in lgc.c

Place for things which are bugs but we have no idea how to solve them. Things related to hardware, libraries, strange setups, etc.

[2.0.72] Crash of headless in lgc.c

Post by battle8111 »

Good afternoon,

I am having a server crash as of the latest patch and associated updated mods. Log files in attachments.

Server set-up & information:
Description: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
Release: 24.04
Codename: noble
Linux (servername) 6.14.0-1015-oem #15-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Oct 17 07:49:59 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Running in a container using Pterodactyl (Wings); Egg being used

Mods in use:
mods
Occurrence of error:
1. Playing game normally with mods on latest update + Space Age
2. Server crash at seemingly random times. Did not seem to pint-point if an in-game action was causing the crash

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the report, do you know of any way to reproduce this? I’ve seen crashes in the Lua VM over the course of Factorio work however almost no one has been able to reproduce anything.

It makes me think one off memory or CPU issues, but I have no way to prove that.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Hello Rseding,

Thank you for the response to my bug report!

For us, when we were messing around in the server, to trigger from moving the AAI vehicles via issuing commands quickly while they were in a large group. (Or at least, it seemed as so)

That seems like the only thing I could see that maybe was "triggering" it on our end?

I would be surprised if it was my hardware, but I meant to include that in the original post, here are the specs:
SAMSUNG 990 PRO 2TB SSD (x2)
CORSAIR Vengeance 64GB (4 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5200 (Not set to highest memory frequency, I believe its around 3200 currently
AMD EPYC 4004 (4th Gen) 4464P Dodeca-core (12 Core) 3.70 GHz Processor - 64 MB L3 Cache (not overclocked)
ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI AMD B650

In Pterodactyl, I have 12 gib of ram allocated to the instance, with 40 gib of space, along with 800% CPU usage. I rarely see it go above 1 gib of memory, it only has above 582.15 MiB and I have never seen the CPU usage rise above 100%.

In attachments is latest log as it crashed once more. I hope this additional information helps, along with any suggestions I could try on my end, hardware or software wise, to resolve the crashing issue.

Is there a way I can help you test that memory or CPU issue?

Thank you

That crash is unrelated, so this is definitely a hardware issue.

Darn; any insight on what specifically wise of the build that could be causing it? Appreciate the feedback

I assume that this machine is using ecc memory, so you should have gotten error reports if memory were the issue. I think the cpu itself is the most likely cause.

Corsair's Vengeance memory is not ECC capable. Running Memtest86+ would be a good first troubleshooting step.

The Asus motherboard listed seems to be a standard ATX-style; what Case is it mounted in? Plexiglass side-panels do not provide much protection against RF interference (eg, Microwave ovens).

Thank you all again for the suggestions and questions, let me answer all of them:

That is on my list currently; I just adjusted the frequency and did some voltage changes - from 3600 mghz to 4000, now for stability tests (along with some other changes). I am not familiar with ECC memory as mentioned in both posts; but if that memory is not capable, what are the implications of that? This is honestly my first real "home built" server using a mix-mash of parts. Parts are only 3 1/2 months old (all brand new, nothing refurbished or used).

Both sides of the case are just metal. But there was a microwave not too far from it funny enough. But its rarely used if ever. But it was just recently moved farther away.

I again really appreciate the help as this bug report is leading me in a good direction for better stability with this build.
