Command Line Save Load Improvement

Post by KeithFromCanada »

TL;DR
Support wildcards in save-file names.
What?
I use save names like 202500509-van-a. (i.e. {start date}-{vanilla/DLC/overhaul mod}-{letter to allow versioned backups}.) Being able to drop --mod-directory ~/.factorio/mods-20250509-van --load-game 20250509-van-g into Steam's 'Launch Options' or a taskbar shortcut lets me quickly jump into my current run. ...unless I have incremented the version letter and forgot to change the launch options. To be frank, having to load the latest save and change the launch options isn't a big deal, but it gave me an idea: support wildcards in file names, so the latest version of a run will always be loaded.
Why?
This would allow desktop shortcuts/etc. to *ALWAYS* point to the latest save, so one click can get you directly into the game and playing.

(Bonus suggestion: add a --load-game-paused option, which loads the game and then immediately brings up the pause menu, so things won't start happening until the player unpauses the game. This can help if players have Factorio load the game on boot, have such a large save that it takes quite a while to load, etc.)
