Force Copy - hotkey to copy trains and fuel without blueprint dialog

Post by stokastic »

TL;DR
There should be a hotkey to copy/paste a train with fuel without entering the blueprint dialog. I propose to add "Shift" key when doing Ctrl+C.

What?
If I have a train on a rail and I want to copy it, I must either
  • a) manually construct a train, manually fuel it, and manually copy the schedule (shift right click, shift left click makes this a bit less painful)
  • b) create a new blueprint by holding shift AFTER pressing Ctrl+C to enter blueprint-selection mode, then check "include trains" and "include fuel", store the blueprint in my inventory or bp book, and then finally use the blueprint
What I propose is that holding shift BEFORE pressing Ctrl+C (full shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+C), it will default to including trains and fuel and will NOT create a new blueprint, but simply add the layout to your copy/paste buffer the same way standard Copy tool works.
Why?
Messing around with train designs or trying to copy a build that includes trains is more cumbersome that it needs to be, and can be simplified without adding any cognitive overhead or changing muscle memory for any existing workflows. This change would strictly improve the process of building and editing builds with trains without the downside of filling your inventory with blueprints you immediately destroy after.
