[2.0.47] Full blueprint book deleted after 1 misclick?

Post by Materio »

I'll describe it the best I can, maybe this is not a bug but it sure feels like it right now.
  • I was on one of my space platform as a passenger.
  • I created a blueprint of the ship I was on.
  • Since there is no "inventory" aboard a platform, I can't select and/or move my newly created blueprint to the game Blueprint library (B) in the top right of the game GUI... so I drop on planet.
  • Once I land my inventory is empty except for the newly created blueprint.
  • Then I select the bp and open the Blueprint library (with my mouse top right) having the bp in cursor.
  • Then (the misclick) while having the blueprint in cursor, I right click on a blueprint book.
  • Then the blueprint book disapear and the new bp take its place.
  • So it's just not there. nowhere to be found. the blueprint book that was there... it's gone.
If it's not a bug, my blueprint books shouldn't just disapear like that (i think)? Also, where is it?

Right clicking does not delete. Can you reproduce following exactly what you describe?

I should have said this happened in my default game on default settings on pure 2.0.55 vanilla 0 mods.

I don't want to reproduce the bug and delete another bp book, so I would have to create another save and make the necessary tests. That would take me some time I guess and if it really did just delete the book like that, I think somebody other than me should get on this ASAP?

Just happened before I began posting... I'm still almost beliving I'll get the blueprint book back, that I have missed it somehow... I went and checked... nope its gone.

I'll see if I can provide more informations

Okay, I tried recreating it but the book is definitely gone. Can't find it anywhere!

Obviously nothing happened. The normal behavior is what happened.

But it made me realize that's probably the misclick. What I wanted was open the book so I right clicked on it (i think)
But what I got was left click behavior (the replacement of the bp in the slot) but not the feedback (the replacement of the bp in cursor)
which is what I got when I tried to replicate it. What i think i misclicked I now think was both left and right click happening at the same time or alternatively within the same tick? creating both behavior at the same time but obviously not returning the bp book replaced in cursor. (because i double checked AAAAAAND IT'S GONE.)

Another piece of information I just remembered is that the bp book that got lost had at least 1 other book in it. Can't remember if it had more than one but I'm sure it had at least one other book in it.

Now the only thing I can think about is where could it be. I mean for real. It's a real asset, in a real game, on a real computer ! LOL

Hey

I play factorio on an older computer, not too slow just older. When there's an autosave in my game, it takes about 1 second of "game freeze" for my hdd to write the file... just the time it takes to show the save progress bar.

Just before I landed on planet before I lost the blueprint book, there was an autosave. When I loaded it, I was like about an inch from the landing pad. Now what i think happened is the misclick is probably both click at the same time PLUS there was maybe a locked file or priority chained cmd sequence from the autosave PLUS my older computer. I say that because the only other problem I had with the game is a corrupt save file from a rapid computer shutdown.

So recap:

- I'm flying to aquilo
- I create a bp of the platform I am a passenger on
- I arrive at aquilo and drop on planet
- while I'm dropping there's an autosave about an inch from the landing pad
- my older computer do the 1 second saving freeze while I'm already landed probably and already moving and maybe even already doing the thing I landed for.
- I misclick or double click or both click the bp book and *POOF* it's gone.

I also checked (from the autosave) if my inventory was full and it wasn't. So it didn't just drop on the floor. Also I'm pretty sure I did not even grab my inventory chests before doing the bp because i didn't intend to stay, just do the bp and get back to the platform. There was room in my inventory on the platform and on the ground.

Another thing I remembered is that I might have been in remote view even though I had just landed because sometimes (when it's late gaming like this was) I think I try and open my character with the tab button. I think it's from cod or something, anyway I also tested in remote view and can't reproduce. The bp book always gets back to inventory and mine is gone.

That's pretty much it from me, unless I can answer questions you may have I don't think I have more informations.
I've already moved on in my default game and I'm trying to forget the loss so good luck with that!

Sorry to bring this back up again but I had the wrong game version in title. I had downloaded 2.0.55 but I was on 2.0.47.

Also after having played this wonderful game for hundreds more hours since this post, I can say I believe this was an autosave issue. The autosave took precedence over whatever I was doing and the book was lost. Anyway, I had to fix the version number in the title, sorry!

[[ PLEASE IGNORE THE POST, this is just to potentially help other folks, Moving the thing I was expecting to post to quote...]]
Game Version: 2.0.72.

Hey Folks, I believe I have had the same issue, let me see if I can explain the steps to reproduce. My steps are sligthly different than the OP, but I think the concept might be the same.

Steps to reproduce:
"Map out" to another planet.
Mark something to copy.
Open Blueprint Book, Look for a blueprint book you want to add this blueprint to.
Click (left click) on that blueprint, wrongly, instead of right click to open...
Realize your mistake and wrongly hit escape while holding the blueprint book wanted to add the BP to.
Puff, BP Book is gone.

Expected behaviour: BP Book should be dropped into either its original place, or the end of BP Library.
OMG: I'm stupid. I tried to repro and yes, the BP is on the character inventory, but when I realized my mistake (without noticing that it was in the character inventory, I quickly loaded a previous autosave, and the BP-book sync ensure that the BP-Library was wiped out, and cause I didn't had a save "post the fact" the BP-book that was in my inventory was lost forever.

This was a BP-book that I was collecting a lot of stuff I build on Gleba, but I only lost a few new additions, cause I manage to use "bypass library sync" to load a previous save, look at the bp library and recover the BP Book without the changes... Here's a write-up of a PSA after trying to troubleshooting this with Gemini, hope it helps others not make the same mistake as I did.

⚠️ PSA: The "Panic Load" Can Permanently Delete Your Blueprints
I recently lost a heavily modified blueprint book due to a specific interaction between the Global Blueprint Library and the Save/Load system. If you use the Blueprint Library (B), read this to avoid the "Blueprint Void."

The Scenario (The Trap)
You are holding a blueprint book that lives in your "My Blueprints" (Global Library).

You accidentally "pick it up" into your hand (e.g., trying to reorganize or hitting Esc/Q while it's selected).

The book is now a physical item in your Character Inventory.

The Critical Moment: Because the book moved from the Library to your Inventory, the Global Library updates instantly to say: "This book is no longer in the library."

The Fatal Mistake: The "Panic Load"
If you realize the book is gone from your library and you immediately load an older autosave (without saving your current game), you create a paradox:

The Global Library is already updated to the "future" where the book was removed.

The Old Save is a "past" version where your character was not yet holding the book.

The Result: The book exists in neither the library nor your inventory. It is gone.

Why this happens
Factorio stores data in two different ways:

Save Files: Store your inventory, the map, and "Game Blueprints." These roll back when you load a save.

blueprint-storage-2.dat: This is a single, global file that stores "My Blueprints." It is independent of save files. It does not roll back when you load a game; it only moves forward.

How to avoid the "Blueprint Void"
Check your bags first: If a blueprint disappears from your library, it is almost certainly in your character’s inventory or the "Trash" slots.

Manual Backup: Regularly export your most important books as Blueprint Strings and save them in a text file.

The Emergency Fix: If this happens, Stop! Do not load a save. Go to %appdata%/Factorio and look for blueprint-storage-2-backup.dat. Copy it immediately before the game overwrites it.

The Hidden Setting: You can use the hidden Ctrl + Alt + Settings menu to enable bypass-library-sync. This forces the game to load the library snapshot that was stored inside your old save file, allowing you to recover the lost data.
