Hi,
Laptop spec i9-14900HX 2.20 GHz, 64GB RAM, RTX 4070 and I am running up to date graphics, drivers etc.
A few weeks now Factorio has randomly crashed during game. I can't pinpoint what was the trigger, I was leaning towards blueprint placement or copy/paste function. I originally assumed it was software, then the game told me 'file corrupted due to failing hardware'.
Some of the game messages included:-
Cannot save map, possible memory corruption
Invalid bool loaded from input file
Everytime the game crashes and offer the current log.
I tried a memtest86 and it wouldn't complete 3 passes, no errors just got to a point and wouldnt progress. Laptop under warranty, got new RAM sent out and exchanged. Completed 24hr memtest86+, 13 passes with no errors. I have tested CPU with OCCT for an hour on extreme no errors. Tested both SSD drives with CrystalDiskMark all ok.
Returned to game and the crashes continue. Is this due to bugs or are my saves corrupted due to previous memory issues?
I have only used one MOD in this game, Rate Calculator.
On the last crash it was when I was placing a blueprint but the other crashes were not the same trigger.
I attach several crash files named with date and time of occurance and a couple of screenshots.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the report. The crashes are *all over the place*. That combined with the CPU you have makes me think your CPU is faulty and it's the 13th/14th gen CPU bug https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments ... h_gen_cpu/
Do you have the latest BIOS? If not, try updating it. If yes, you'll need to RMA your laptop.

If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Re: [2.0.055] unpredictable crashing during game
Hi,
The 13/14th Gen bug did not affect mobile CPUs. I have checked this with the supplier of laptop and they also confirm this bug will not affect my laptop. It only affected desktop. The Reddit post you linked to specifically said that Intel excluded HX class processors and mine is an i9 14th gen HX processor.
Is there any other reason that Factorio crashes like this?

Yes, your Warranty-Replaced memory caused the Savegames to be Corrupt.mauralabingi wrote: Sat Jun 28, 2025 3:24 pmIs there any other reason that Factorio crashes like this?

You will need to start a new Game which has no Corruption in it. Factorio cannot magically un-corrupt a savefile once you have replaced the bad Memory.

Re: [2.0.055] unpredictable crashing during game
I may not need to start over. Been burnt before so I save constantly. I have nearly 500 separate saves of this map seed going back months. If I manage to go back thorough and find a stable save, keep steam cloud off, and remove/restart blueprints I am hoping I salvage it. All I needed help with was whether this was a bug or corrupted files.......hoping not to require the services of any wizards.eugenekay wrote: Sat Jun 28, 2025 4:19 pmmauralabingi wrote: Sat Jun 28, 2025 10:00 amI tried a memtest86 and it wouldn't complete 3 passes, no errors just got to a point and wouldnt progress.
