going for the lazy bastard achievement in June 2025
hello there! i have not been seeing lots of posts on the attempt for the lazy bastard achievement in factorio space stage. is it still possible? is it easier? harder? do i have to disable space stage, is it space stage compatible? the last bit of news on this i was able to see was somewhere in late 2024, but there were some bugs on getting this achievement back then so i decided to wait a few months to see if its ironed out and to see what methods may have been developed. if people are still unsure i shall make the attempt! but before that anyone have some guidance for an older strategy that i may test out? something to enter the mindset of trying to going into the direction of trying to restrict my current methods to learn more restrictive but interesting ones!

It's a rather easy achievement and is faster with Space Age than with the base game, because it's faster in Space Age to launch the first rocket. The actual doing is the same, because you've done it long before you get to any Space Age specific stuff.
The strategy is the same as ever.
You need to craft a few items manually to be able to research Automation, then research Automation, then create your first assembling machine. As soon as you have the assembling machine, it's essentially done because instead of manually crafting things, you use that assembling machine and the ones you create with that. After that, you just need discipline to not accidentally craft anything manually. Ever.
You can ease up that second part until the rocket launch by removing the permission to hand craft items from yourself after you got the first assembling machine, so you just cannot hand craft anything any more. You do this by entering /permissions in the console, then edit your player, then remove the check from the "Craft" permission. (This console use will not disable achievements)

It's not a difficult achievement technically. For me, the difficult part is just remembering not to do it accidentally, as I've handcrafted many, many things over hundreds of hours of early game play over the years. For me, once I get to bots, I'm a lot less likely to forget and accidentally craft things by hand.

You don’t need to fiddle with Permissions or Console Commands; just un-set the Control Bindings for Craft 1/10/All in Settings (after you get to Automation 1 / First Assembling Machine ready). It is then impossible to Craft anything else by Hand.
