Is the temperature system incomplete?

Is the temperature system incomplete?

Post by Fabriken AGI »

I notice that many/all? fluids have a temperature property (and heat capacity)

However, they seem to always stay at the same temperature no matter what?
Also, no leak to environment/buildings/adjacent pipes with other fluids etc?

Is this something that is work in progress or did it get abandoned?

EDIT: are all fluid "lakes" infinite?

There is no enviromental cooling. That was never part of the game and there was never an intention to add it as such as far as I know.

Heat pipes cool by giving up heat to heat exchangers, though, generating steam. Bascially, heat is a ressource which you can store forever. Just as you can store steam in tanks forever or transport ice cubes on belts on Vulcanus without those getting melted.

In previous versions of the Game, Water and Steam were implemented as the same Fluid with different Temperatures. This turned out to be a really painful mechanism for a lot of reasons, so they are now separate Fluids. You can still mix “500C Steam” (produced by Heat Exchangers) with “165C Steam” (produced by Boilers) to obtain steam somewhere in between; this provides no practical benefit in the Base Game since Steam Turbines & Engines are pre-balanced to run optimally at exactly these temperatures….

There are plenty of Modded fluids which do crazy things like add Fuel Values so they can be burned directly in Gas Generators, or Fluid burning Locomotives…. So there is no way to remove this Feature - it just is not used Fully by the Base Game.

Offshore Pumps will never exhaust/slow extraction of a Fluid resource from a Lake.
