Player inventory window height - 4 possible fixes

Post by FasterJump »

I finally crafted a legendary mech armor, which comes with +125 inventory slots. However, now the UI takes most of the screen to display 205 inventory slots, even though most of it is empty.

I haven't researched "Tool Belt". If I had, it would be even worse (215 inventory slots). I use standard resolution settings and 100% UI size.

I would like to suggest four possible changes:
  • Automatically reduce the inventory height if the 3 lower sections are empty (treat empty inventory slots as no inventory slots).
  • Add a UI option to limit the inventory height.
  • Reduce the base player inventory size to 75 (instead of 80), and increase the bonus from Tool Belt research to 15 (instead of 10) to compensate. This way, those who don't want to increase their inventory size only have 200 inventory slots, which fits without needing a scroll bar.
  • Add an option to manually reduce the player's inventory size, somehow.
Does anyone else feel like the inventory window is unnecessarily tall?

The Factory Must Grow! The UI is definitely cramped at 1280x720 (such as on the Nintendo Switch), but I think the scroll bars and Tabbing make it usable, if not as customizable as eg, OpenRCT2. More screen space helps fit more things on screen…. So, I bought 4x 4K monitors! I have not found the Inventory panel to be problematic when maximized at 7680x4320 - scrolling with lots of entities active on screen causes FPS to drop a little. And I have to move my mouse a looooong way across the desk.

Second Viewpoint: Don’t Use your Player’s Inventory; use your Logistic Network or Tanks & Spidertrons to hold items. When you get MultiPlanetary you can use Remote View for almost everything that the Character can do; with the benefit of flexibility and infinite movement reach/speed. Once you start using Logistic Group Names you can toggle them on/off your Character…. With Trash Unrequested it is finally possible to keep the empty hands from the Lazy Bastard achievement all the way to space.
