Have fluid based reactors heat up to the temperature of the consumed fluid

Post by protocol_1903 »

As stated in the title, I think that fluid based reactors that operate based on the temperature of the fluid consumed/cooled should only heat up to the temperature of that fluid. I'm imagining a system where one uses fuel to boil water, then uses that steam to create heat for power production. But it doesn't make sense for 150C steam to make 500-1k C heat.

Anyway, I think this would also be an interesting property in boilers as well, specifically for heat exchangers. Creating 500C steam is cool, but what if you could create hotter steam by bumping up the temperature? Then players could have multiple avenues of progression; steam temperature, quality, fuel... many more options for optimization. It would also make more compact reactors more efficient, by increasing the steam temperature closer to the core.

If you put fluids of different temperatures in the same fluid box, they will average. However, I will also note that skipping the steam -> heat step would probably be what 90% of people do in the described situation.

That's not what I'm referring to in the slightest. I'm talking about having reactors (the prototype) that run on heated fluid. If implemented as a mod it would be a completely different system to the current reactor (nuclear powered entity) setups, warranting new designs and considerations.
