Consistently Order Planets and Related things in the GUI

Post by IsaacOscar »

I've noticed that Factorio can't make it's mind up as to what order Vulcanus, Gleba, and Fulgora related things should be displayed in. In particular, it uses the following orders:
  1. Nauvis, Vulcanus, Gleba, Fulgora, Aquilo
    • This is used by the space tab of Factoriopedia, the order is :
      12-21-2024, 18-31-11.png

    • The order of the planets in remote view
    • Science packs (as well as their associated achievements)

    • The order of Tiles in Factoriopedia
    • The order of the turrets in the Combat tab of Factoriopedia and Crafting Menu.
  2. Nauvis, Vulcanus, Fulgora, Gleba, and Aquillo:
    • This is the order of the intermediate product recipes:

  3. Nauvis, Fulgora, Gleba, Vulcanus, and Aquillo (not all of the following have every one of these planets)
    • This is the order shown in the enemies tab of Factoriopedia
    • This is also the order shown for cliffs in the environment tab of Factoriopedia
    • The order of the planet specific tips and tricks
    • The order of the planet discovery technologies
    • The order of the achievements for visiting the planets, and agro-ing enemies
  4. Other Orders
    • Most of the things in the Environment tab in Factoriopedia are ordered very inconsistently and arbitrarily
    • The handheld Railgun (from Aquilo) is ordered before the Tesla Gun (from Fulgora), same with their ammo, and ammo bonuses
    • the artillery targeting remote (unlocked on Vulcanus) is ordered before the discharge defense remote (unlocked on Nauvis)
In particular, I suggest that order #2 be used (it is the order the planets were introduced in the Factorio friday facts) and I feal corresponds to the planets difficult. In particular, Gleba should be listed after Vulcanus and Fulgora as it is much harder, and players (like me) who don't want to read spoilers might use the GUI ordering as a hint as to which order to visit the planets...

(Note that my mod https://mods.factorio.com/mod/planet-reorder makes all of the above ordered following #2, and some other ordering issues)

#1 looks like Nauvis, then distance from the sun.
#2 looks like development/FFF order, implicit gameplay difficulty (in the sense that planets with least amount of new mechanics, thus easier gameplay transition, were developed first).
#3 looks like Nauvis, then alphabetical order?

I believe v2.0.7 had mostly #2 & #3, then some update changed the focus to #1.

I didn't notice any changes to the order fields in https://github.com/wube/factorio-data

I managed to find only swapped order of electromagnetic and agricultural science packs (craft menu) in 2.0.24.
I guess I remembered wrong.
