[2.0.25] Dropping items on belt allows for over compression

Post by secelt »

when dropping items on a belt, if you continue dropping them ever so slightly behind the items already on the belt, the items will be dropped exactly where your pointer is, arbitrarily close (compressed) to the items ahead. this always happens and is independent of the save used.

i expected behavior similar to 1.1, where if you drop an item on a belt at the end of an item queue, it drops it at the normal distance to the others.
reproduction steps
  1. put down a short length of belt.
  2. hold a stack of some item in your hand.
  3. move mouse pointer to on top of belt.
  4. hold down “drop item” button (Z by default).
  5. wait until the dropped items queue backs up all the way to your mouse pointer.
  6. while keeping the drop button held, slowly move your pointer in the opposite direction of the belt while staying in the same lane.
congratulations, you now have a super-compressed queue of items.

i would’ve included a video to demonstrate, but i haven’t figured out how to record my screen yet. :/
