Factoriopedia and/or debug view for entity heating_energy

Post by sparr »

Currently there's no straightforward way for a player to discover which entities cost more to heat than others on Aquilo.

I'd like to see the heating_energy of an entity in Factoriopedia, probably measured in kW.

I'd also like to see a debug view toggle to render the heat consumption of entities, perhaps with a colored box around each entity that's more red for more costly entities.

I can write a mod to provide the latter, but I thought I'd ask here first...

Seconded, heat consumption is really unintuitive right now.

My first time on Aquilo, I used undergrounds everywhere possible assuming less tiles would equal less heat consumption. While it makes sense for balancing and encouraging thoughtful base design IF the player understands this mechanic, this is not visible to the player in game (as far as I know) and I only discovered that all my undergrounds belts and pipes were huge heat sinks by chance when I was reading the wiki.

I get that it would clutter the tooltip UI to display this for entities outside of Aquilo but if it was possible to only show this on Aquilo tiles or otherwise at the very least show it in the Factoriopedia as well as call out that undergrounds take more heat in Tips and Tricks on Aquilo unlock it would go a long way.
