Expand "Logistics group" concept of global configuration to many more aspects of the game

Post by ividyon »

TL;DR
Apply the concept behind "logistics groups" to many different configuration opportunities in the game.

That is to say, allow more global configuration presets that update all affected entities at once, for cases where you may wish the same setup across many places in your factory, and update it all at once.
What?
Logistics groups are a new feature allowing you to save certain lists of items for logistics requests, and reuse them globally across your factory.
This is greatly useful in making "reusable" lists of items that can be quickly copypasted to different chests, space platforms, landing pads etc. around the game.

This concept would be extremely useful if it could be applied in many of the other types of entity configuration the game offers.

A few examples:
  • Any entity's settings (ex. for Inserters it would be Filters, stack size, spoiled priority), sharable with other instances of the entity
  • Any entity's "Circuit connection" configuration (ex. for Assemblers it would be Enable/disable, Set recipe, Read recipe finished, etc.), sharable with other instances of the same entity
  • Module slots
  • Train schedules
  • Space platform schedules
Imagine if you could set all your Biolabs to share the same configuration group, and then change the modules in one of the labs, to automatically have the modules requested for all your other labs as well.
Why?
I believe that the Logistic request group feature is very "exploitable" in that the groundwork behind it could be carried over to other parts of the game to immensely multiply the comfort and QoL. Applying this kind of "paradigm" widely across an interface can be very beneficial and promote ease of use; once you've seen it in one spot, you know what it does in all the other spots.
