[Rseding91] [2.0.15] Landing on a planet without a cargo bay in multiplayer, second player landed on first

Post by JoseJX »

I'm not sure if this is intended, but it was pretty funny!

My friend and I were playing and managed to get to another planet for the first time. I went down first, and he followed. The second capsule landed right on me as I landed and delivered a ton of damage. Perhaps a more random placement, like with the cargo pods before the pad would be better? Or perhaps I just ended up as a loser in the RNG that places the pods?

If this is intended, a landing pattern or something could help to indicate to move out of the way if possible.

Thank you!

Thanks for the report, this is not a bug. Cargo pods occupied by players will try to land as close to [0, 0] as possible because of 117408.

Thanks for taking a look and it makes a lot of sense that it's intended. We'll try to remember for the next one!

So, I was about report a very similar issue and saw this thread.

IMO this should be treated as a bug.

When two players select "drop to planet" during a spaceship trip, they will both descend to the planet at the same time and will land on exactly the same spot, killing one of them instantly. I understand getting killed by having a cargo pod dropping on your head while you are already on the planet - this is no different from getting killed by a train. But when dropped at the exact same time, this behaviour is unfair and feels very janky.

When a pod is launched, it should not select a tile which is already chosen by another pod as its landing spot. This would mean keeping track of not only free/occupied tiles, but also tiles which are selected as landing spots. If [0,0] is another pod's landing spot, just select the closest free tile available.

At the very very least, pods launched at the same time/in the same frame should not land in the same tile.

This is now fixed for the next release. I added some "immunity frames" (5 seconds) after landing where you can't be squashed.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
