[2.0.13] Tungsten Ore generation problem

Post by Carnivale »

Tungsten ore doesn't seem to be generating properly on the map aside from the small patch near the start location. I have the ore frequency set to 33% (same as calcite and there's lots of it) in map generation settings, but surely there should still be at least some I could find?

No mods used.

Thanks for the report. Such problems are hard to reproduce without a save file.

Tungsten is a biome-specific resource so it needs the biome and the spot generation to overlap. Reducing the tungsten frequency makes it less likely to appear in general. This combined with areas that it can't spawn due to the biome, lower frequency makes it much more inconsistent.

The first slider made the 3 biomes much larger and spaced apart, so you need to travel further in general to find different resources. The 2nd slider made volcanos larger than normal, so they can eat into the other biomes.

The combined settings made it much more luck based then normal, and you got unlucky.

There is tungsten on the map, you only needed to explore about 10% further to find it.

Thank you so much for explaining how tungsten generation works. Now I have a much better understanding of the implications tuning the sliders higher can cause on Vulcanus. It's nice to know that it's not an ore generation problem.

I guess I have a few worms to wrestle with on my way to some tungsten.

Thanks again, and have a good day!

I also have a problem: I have explored the planet quite far beyond the landing location, and I only found a pretty small tungsten ore patch (just above 313k).

Could there have been an issue during game/planet generation (standard settings)?

For some reason your tungsten ore frequency is set to minimum - it seems like you accidentally reduced it when you created the map. You can fix it for new chunks by typing `/editor`, going to surfaces, selecting Vulcanus, pressing Edit map gen settings, and adjusting tungsten ore frequency. There are mods like https://mods.factorio.com/mod/regenerate-terrain which can regenerate old chunks for you.
