[Idea] No-flight/No-build zone marking for bots

Post by Erfar »

Please add ability to mark part of the map as are where bots should not flight or at least build anything.

While at Nauivis it is not so hard to move outside of logistic network to blueprint some design, at places like Fulgora or Aquilo that is much harder.

Yes I know there is mods like Blueprint lab to create bluprints but there would be much better expiriance to have such thing at vanilla playthrough. Also that would allow to create separation between logistic network without remaking whole roboport grid.

A hundred of my bots just flew over a massive enemy base and got wrecked. Just a stream of them. I had no way to stop them at all, and I hate that.

What do I even do? They're too tough for me to beat quickly, but I have another base on the other side of that. They cross over, and it's a slaughter.

1) Don’t build concave bases, stick with Square or Octagons so the Bots stay “inside the walls”
2) Robots are not a magical solution. Use smaller networks, not one giant Network per surface. This requires you to solve Logistical puzzles (Trains!), not just throw everything in a Logistics chest.
3) Get diplomatic with the Natives! Build a couple tanks and send them over Remote View to negotiate for Land usage rights.

Good Luck!

I've got trains. I've got loads. Trains are the problem because I use bots to service the defences on their mini bases. Which are all convex squares. I can contain the bots to the bases, but that means they aren't self sufficient.

The whole point of linking their networks was so that they could share small amounts o resources on a base where there are already about ten trains running on big networks.

And thats exactly whats causing your issue. You need to either let trains carry all the stuff between your bases, including the stuff needed for repair or clear out the biter bases in between.

That's just not feasible because 1) they literally wander the heck off, way into the wilderness, with no warning or reason. 2) I literally cannot fight some of these enemy camps. 3) The bases don't know what they need, can't request it from the train network, and it makes zero sense to set up an entire route to drop off random stuff when I can instead connect them to the drone network. Which should be fully capable of setting up no fly zones.

I remember this being suggested a while ago regarding concave bot networks causing bot deaths/bad recharging choices, and the official response was "don't do that". Ultimately I think it's just impossible for performance reasons. You can't have 100k+ bots pathfind to their target, it's simply impossible, it's got to be a straight line.
